Butterfly Inlay
With a scalpel, carefully scoring the shape of the ripple sycamore butterfly onto the side of the box. The scored shape will be removed and the butterfly glued in place!

Box Lid Removal
Early stages of a jewellery box. The lid is sawn off after the sides are glued together to ensure an exact fit. In this example, the marquetry top was made separately and added to the box later.

Celtic Knot Inlay
The shape of the solid silver and topaz 'Celtic Knot' inlay is traced around before removing a channel in the ebony lid top. Once the inlay is glued in place the inlay is filed down level with the lid.

Applying the first of several thin layers of shellac to lid to bring out the stunning figure of the Birds-Eye Maple panel and marquetry inlay. This box is being made to house embroidery silks and hoops.
